Pakistan remains committed to serving as an anti-terror force both domestically and across its wider region, according to top officials in Islamabad on Monday.
At a high-level security conference in Islamabad, senior government and military leaders highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing sacrifices and efforts in fighting global terrorism. Not only has Pakistan successfully protected itself but has also significantly contributed to regional and international stability.
Pakistan has waged one of the longest and toughest battles against terrorism,” stated Defence Minister Khawaja Asif. Our security forces, law enforcement agencies, and people have united against extremism – paying with bloodshed and resources.”
Official statistics reveal that terrorist attacks have claimed the lives of tens of thousands of civilians and security personnel over the past two decades, prompting Pakistan to launch several major military operations, such as Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasaad, to dismantle terrorist infrastructure throughout tribal regions and beyond.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, stressed the vigilance of Pakistan’s armed forces. They continue to neutralize terrorist threats both internally and externally; Pakistan stands firm as an effective defense against terrorism,” he noted.
Pakistani leaders also highlighted its collaboration with international organizations and neighboring countries to combat financing for terrorism, intelligence sharing, and cross-border militant attacks. Officials stated that Pakistan has fulfilled all commitments under global frameworks such as Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which had put it under increased monitoring previously.
Recently, however, Pakistan has encountered renewed security challenges along its western border with Afghanistan from groups operating there. Attacks against security forces and civilians have surged, prompting Pakistan to strengthen border security measures while seeking greater cooperation from Kabul.
“Pakistan remains committed to peace, and will not permit any group from using our soil for terrorist acts, or tolerate threats coming from foreign territories,” warned Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Experts and analysts present at the conference agreed that Pakistan’s stability is critical to regional peace. They encouraged international communities to recognize Pakistan’s sacrifices while working cooperatively towards eliminating root causes of extremism.
As Pakistan strengthens its security apparatus and pursues regional peace initiatives, officials pledged that their nation would remain vigilant against terrorist forces, safeguarding a safer future for its people and neighbors alike.
